Our 2016 to 2019 community plan was created by local people by holding community discussions and interviews to work out what local people wanted to do. The Community Plan was funded by the Golden Plains Shire (via the Community Planning grant) and Dereel locals worked together to form a plan and carry it out. Now, three and a half years of our work has been completed. Thank you to everyone on the team who helped to achieve some amazing things for the community to use and enjoy.
Here is the work completed by this project:

Projector and Screen
These can be booked for use in the Community Centre for community events.

Walking Track Signs
In conjunction with Parks Victoria, the Walking Group devised signs for local walking tracks.

Gallery Tracking for Hanging Art
Gallery tracking has been installed in the Hall, Meeting Room and the corridor leading to the kitchen.

History Display Case
Located just outside the community kitchen is a lockable history display cabinet.

Flag Poles
Two flag poles were installed outside the Dereel Soldier’s Memorial Hall.

Plants, Soil and Scoria
A contribution to the Dereel Community Garden.

Store Room Shelving
After renovations, the community centre had a storeroom without shelving. That is now fixed.

Blockout Blinds
Blockout blinds enable the projector and screen to be used in the daytime.

Lockable Storage
Secure storage for the projector, screen and other items which need to be booked.

Brochure Holders
Space to neatly store brochures to help everyone in the community was needed. These are located in the kitchen.

Event Banners
We now have community event banners we can put on the highway to promote local events at the Hall (in total we have ‘Coffee” ‘Art” ‘Community Breakfast’ ‘Garden” ‘Community Event’ and ‘Men’s Shed)

Event Space Hire for 2020
As the 2020 Community Grant is dedicated to paving, we used some funds from the Community Planning grant to pre-pay for events such as the Dereel Arts and Crafts Festival.
The next Community Planning cycle will begin in the second half of 2020. Start thinking about other things which could enhance our communal space. If you would like to find out more, contact us, or come to a Hub Café on Saturdays between 2pm and 4pm. There is usually a community planner or two there.
