Celebrating 100 Years of the Dereel Soldier’s Memorial Hall
The 100 year anniversary of the opening of the Dereel Soldier’s Memorial Hall will be celebrated on Saturday 22nd May. This is an event for all members of the Dereel community.
The history display is presented by Julie Donaghy. Julie has been researching the history of Dereel for many years and has accumulated maps, documents, memorabilia and objects of historical significance. Julie’s collection will be on display in the Hall all day.

10am The hall will be opened by our Golden Plains Mayor, Helena Kirby
10.30am Dereel/Enfield Scouts will be doing a Flag Raising Ceremony with the Australian, Indigenous & Torres Strait Islander Flags
11am A Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony with Barry Gilson, Wadawurrung Man, Singer, Poet and Storyteller
A free BBQ will follow at the public Rotunda area, near the Skate Park
The history display will include local history of the Hall, original town plan and buildings, the families who settled here, the local racecourse, gold mining, Dereel Co-Op, family history, maps, schools, and Churches.
Historical photographs of Dereel will be projected onto the wall
