For over 15 years, members of the Dereel fire brigade have had a close relationship with Santa. Each year, Santa contacts the fire brigade and asks if he can use one of their fire trucks to visit the children and properties of Dereel ahead of Christmas Eve.
Children (and quite a few adults), can be seen waiting at gates and on the sides of the road for a chance to say hello to Santa. They anxiously listen for the sound of the fire truck sirens and the ringing of Santa’s big bell to know he is close. Bags of lollies are handed out to all the children he meets with several photos also taken.
Santa and the fire truck will be visiting children where details were left on the Fire Brigade Facebook page before: Friday, 7th December, but you can keep an eye out for him as he is driven around Dereel. The planned schedule for Santa’s visit this year is:
Swamp/Kleins/Rokewood Junction – 8:00am-8:30am
Snowgum/Tantaus 8:30-9:15am
Bliss/Progress/Stones/Grassy Gully – 9:15-10:00am
Ferrars/Moffats/Grevillea – 10:15-11:30am
Paynesbridge/Reserve – 11:30am-12:00pm
Spring Rd – 12:15pm
Colac-Ballarat to Leigh Crt – 12:15-12:45pm
Colac-Ballarat to Swamp – 12:45-1:30pm
